Junior Cadets Out in the Field
Junior air cadets from 1070 (Diss) Squadron recently completed their first fieldcraft training day at RAF Barnham, near Thetford, and are already asking for the next one!
The cadets were also joined by cadets from other Air Training Corps squadrons from Woodbridge and Thurston. The fun filled day started early on the Saturday morning with ‘basha’ building and how to cook a 24 hour ration pack, and ended up with a night time exercise which involved lots of cadets getting lost in the dark!
Cadet Madeleine Killaspy, a pupil at Diss High School said “We had a really fantastic time. It was my first time learning about fieldcraft and I really enjoyed every minute. I loved learning about how to camouflage yourself so people cant see you, and how to move about quietly at night. I’m really looking forward to the next training weekend where we will get to camp out overnight!”
Flight Lieutenant Emma Dixon, Commanding Officer of 1070 Diss Squadron, who put together the event said “It was really good to see the cadets and staff having such fun. A lot of effort goes into these training days and it was great to get so much positive feedback. Working with other squadrons is always a positive, the cadets get to make new friends and the staff can share ideas and best practice It’s a win win scenario!”
Diss Air Cadets parade every Tuesday and Thursday, at the Drill Hall, Sunnyside, Diss from 7pm till 9.30pm and welcomes all young people aged between 13 and 18 years. They are currently recruiting.
