Cadets at all levels of the Air Training Corps have the opportunity to participate in the sport of rifle shooting. It is one of the most popular sports at our Squadron, and as we have our own shooting range, all cadets have the opportunity to fire one of our No.8 rifles. If you show a talent for hitting the target you will get the chance to go for your marksmanship badge.
1070(Diss) Squadron won the prestigious Shooting Trophy at the Wing Field Competition in 2010 and 2011, coming first out of 28 squadrons in Norfolk and Suffolk! In addition to firing the No.8 rifle at the Squadron, we are regularly invited to attend shoots at RAF Honnington, where you can try your hand at shooting the L98 A2 CGP weapon.
Understandably, safety is our number 1 priority when allowing you to handle any weapon, so each cadet is required to pass a fully conclusive Weapons Handling Test (WHT) every 6 months before they are allowed to use a rifle.
