Saturday 2nd June saw the Awards Evening for 1070 (Diss) Squadron. The evening starts with a formal meal and is followed by the presentation of the awards that the cadets have earned over the past 12 months. For many of the cadets this was the first experience of this kind of event. This year the squadron was fortunate to have two special guests of honour, Wing Commander D Miller MBE, the Officer Commanding of Norfolk and Suffolk wing who was recently awarded an MBE on the Queens Honours list, and Mr Leslie Burrows, one of the founding members of the squadron in 1941. Several other ex-cadets from the squadrons 75 years also attended.
The awards are a focal point for all cadets throughout the year and they all work hard towards them. WO (ATC) Gemma Spraggons says “We would like to be able to present each and every one of our cadets with an award as they all work so hard but this is just not possible. Making the decisions of who deserves which awards is so difficult that we use a point system for everything they do to help differentiate between them all. We hope those that didn’t win this year continue to aim for an award next year as I am sure many of them will be successful.” Well done to all the award winners!
